I started my new job on Monday and so far so good. My boss is awesome and my co-workers lively.
And the bid we put on a house was just accepted! Now, I will attempt to keep my jumps of joy to a minimum until the inspection comes through but we are over the first hurdle! |

Hi, this is seshen, Cat's Mom. I asked her if she wanted me to post her Emails to us during the trip to her LJ, since she has very limited Internet time. The 4 previous entries were what she has sent to us thus far. More to follow when we receive them. |

Nothing too exciting to say today. we spent most of the day traveling. We had planned on taking an early train to get to Paris in time to see Notre Dame before taking off to Nice. When we were in Paris last, we had to "reserve" seats on the train. the earliest train that we could book was at 1130am having us arrive at 1230p leaving us plenty of time to get to the next train. When we got to the station, it had just started snowing. We were delayed for 30 minutes. When we got there, we quickly grabbed two cabs to the south station and wondered if we would really make it to the station in time to catch our 140p fast train. We made it to the station with about 7 minutes before departure. We high tailed it and got on the train just before the doors closed. Whew. That was a trek.
We spent the next 5.5 hours looking at country side whiz past us. We arrived to Nice around 730pm, called the hostel, took a tram, and was picked up by hostel staff in front of a grocery store. We really aren't going out tonight b/c it was dark when we got here and i don't think anyone is really all that interested in exploring. There is a little bar here with cheap beer, wine, and sangria so the boys are happy. We had to book our hostel with some weird arrangements. Eva and i are sharing a room with 3 other people and the boys have their own room. Tomorrow at the same hostel, we will have to switch rooms and then we will be rooming together. Tomorrow it is off to the beach and Monacco. I think that is enough for now.

Not too much to say tonight. Last night we met a Canadian here at the hostel and he went out with us for the rest of the night. The great thing is that he spoke French which came in handy. We went to a bar with a "coffin" theme and met some locals who do magic tricks. We drank out of skulls and sat at tables made of coffins. We were out until almost 4 in the morning with everyone. It sleeted and snowed too. All day today the weather had been cold and we ended up in several sleet/snow storm as we walked around. My face is chapped.
We went to "Mini Europe," attempted to go to a brewery but it was closed due to the Easter holiday, and then just followed the tourist map around to other various sites using the metro. Tomorrow we will be headed to Nice and hopefully warmer weather. Now off for some waffles.

Eva and I gave Brian (Jennifer's dad) a send off on the Seines River last night and we spent our evening hanging out at the hostel bar meeting other travelers. Once again this morning was off to a rough start. We got up early specifically to go to the catacombs only to discover that they are closed for renovations until April. All we have done at this point is travel and we were all becoming grumpy and disheartened. We briefly entertained the idea of going to the Eiffel Tower but quickly decided to just head to Brussels and do all of the Paris stuff at the end of the trip. We got to the train station with the idea of getting a locker, exploring Paris, and then the train.
Finding a locker was next to impossible so that is when we decided to continue on. Good thing we did. We stood in the ticket line trying to work out our Euro pass for about 30minutes. It ended up being about $500 U.S for each of us. Yikes. So we hopped the train and met a nice French woman. The train station in Brussels was much easier to navigate without looking for help. We got on the Tube and headed towards the direction we thought our hostel was. We got off too early and the guys insisted we needed to double back while Eva, Ricardo, and I kept telling them it was in the other direction. Carrying that bag all around town has taken its toll and boy is my body sore.
We finally found the hostel and checked in around 3pm. We will stay here tomorrow night too. We were disappointed to find most things closed for Easter and b/c it is Sunday but we decided not to let it bring us down. We started walking and found a resturant. The Flemish pot roast was wonderful. We then decided that we could at least walk over to the tourist area and see some sights. We saw the Mannekan de Pis, the Grand Plaza, and lots of fun ally ways. Lots of shopping was done. Once we got to this area things picked up and we ended up having alot of fun.
It is really cold here and as it got dark we got alittle sleet and lots of drizzle while we walked around. Well, we only have 30 minutes on the internet to share b/t us. So, bye for now!

Sent 1:45am my time. 7:45 your time! So obviously we made it. It was a long and stressful journey. We left Dallas at approx. 7:10pm. We arrived in London at 8:55am their time. With us came sleet and rain along with freezing temperatures. We then rushed to checked through customs....that took about 45 minutes alone, got our bags and hopped a bus to the Heathrow Airport to continue our journey (1 hour ride). We arrived with one hour before our flight was scheduled to leave (12.55pm), only to discover it was cancelled due to wind and we had been placed on stand by in London. The first flight was at 3:15pm 2 hours after our first flight was scheduled. We were given 5 pound vouchers for food and the hope of getting on the next flight. We were forever pessimistic that we would get on that flight considering there were 120 names registered and a total of 170 people, including stand by wanting the flight. Some how, we all got onto the flight and made it into Paris 6 hours after we were supposed to have arrived. We got stuck on the runway for over an hour after our flight had already been delayed due to sleet and snow.
Once we got here, no one at the airport was very helpful so we worked our way to the train station with little information and hoped for the best. It appeared that the locals were nicer than those who worked at the airport. We made it to the main train station GARE NORD and then decided that we were too tired to figure out the tube system and took a cab. It was relatively cheap. He didn't speak English and drove right past our hostel. We asked him to just stop and walked back to the hostel. So here we are. Safe and dry and warm..at least inside. It is approx. 32 degrees here. Right now.
Tomorrow it is the Catacombs in the morning then off to Brussels for two nights. That's it for now since our internet time is limited. P.S. Juanita - call Eva's mom and let her know that we are ok. Everyone else, no prank calls to Eva's mom. =)
Bonjour from all of us - Eva, Michael, Ricardo, Corky, and Catherine (and the guy we just met from India) |

I'm going to France! and Belgium, Switzerland, and Monaco. Now, I'm not worried about the money for the actual trip but I have begun to worry about money before the trip. Although the boy says that I can use him travel pack, it is made for men and will probably not fit meaning, I will most likely have to purchase one of my own. Price? $150-250 for a good sized one. He has a hiking one too but that has a drawstring top leaving all of my stuff vulnerable to being stolen. Then I need good walking shoes. That's another $50-80. And of course some odds and ends totaling about $50. Those are the needed items. But then I was looking at flight entertainment. I would like to purchase a Nintendo DS but that is $129...and not needed. I could just sleep deprive myself then, hopefully, I'll sleep most of the flight.
So we will be leaving on a Friday afternoon. Land in London around 9am and then be in Paris around 3pm. I know that sounds roundabout but the tickets were $250 cheaper. Can't argue with that. We plan on going to Brussels, Geneva, Paris, Bordeaux, Nice, Monaco, French Rivera, etc.
The interesting part about this trip is that a friend of mine will be joining us and she has never been on a plane. Way to be initiated. So far there will be 5 of us and we will have local phones (thanks to one of the traveler's friends) so, heaven forbid, we get separated we will have a way to contact each other.
Anyone been there? Anyone have any recommendations? |

I'm having one of those days when the name Catherine, my reflection in the mirror, and my life seem so foreign to me - like I'm looking through the eyes of another. It's not a depressing feeling yet more one of curiosity. Who is this person? What makes them tick? what is going on inside of their head?
I am exhausted so perhaps I shall ponder these questions as I drift off to sleep. Good night world. |

I've been a busy girl and didn't even know it. As I sit here bored in my office attempting remove my mind from the task at hand, I decided to put my first and last name into a search engine and see what came up. I have apparently written several novels in the late 1940s early 1950s, competed in several different types of races in Tasmania (not to mention being a member of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania), participated in the Mirror Challenge in Australia, hosted services at an Evangelical Church, a writer for Women's Weekly in the early 40s, and been a Deputy Head Perfect for a high school in a city called New Town (somewhere overseas).
Whoo! *wipes forehead* No wonder I feel tired all of the time!

LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the universal primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches.
Benedict, who attended Vatican II as a young theologian, has long complained about what he considers the erroneous interpretation of the council by liberals, saying it was not a break from the past but rather a renewal of church tradition. |

WTF? The season finale left us hanging and now CBS is going to cancel it because they screwed up. In an article on yahoo.com they said that it started off really strong but since it started off in midseason, it lost alot of fans. BUT for running at the same time as American Idol, it supposedly held its own. It is going to be replaced by yet another reality show....This was one of the only shows I followed religiously. I feel that they really tried to stay true to what post-apocolyptic US might be. I'm so tired of getting sucked into a show only to have it cancelled after one season and replaced with something craptacular like Survivor. How the hell are some of these shows still on? They could at least have one or two more episodes of a show to wrap things up. Whatever. Television is crap. I'm ready to give it up because most good TV shows only last one season. At least on CBS. |

I wrote this long wonderful more eloquent rant and the computer froze. I don't feel like writing it again. Long story short the media is running a story about dog attacks and a menacing voice notes the pit bulls are number one. It's bunch of crap. There are lots of dogs who look like pit bulls. Check out this site. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
Because of the media, I can't take my dog to the dogpark without someone yelling at us that we aren't welcome. I can't walk her without someone pulling their child alittle closer to them. Thanks "wannbe" badasses who treat their dogs poorly so that they look tough and act mean. Thanks for slowly ruining our chances for homeowner's insurance, rentals, and life out in public with our dog. You suck.
This is the first time I have spoken out to the media against a story.... |

I'm so excited. I got an amazon gift card for Valentine's day but I was having trouble settling on what to buy with it. The boy has recently gotten into making his own wish list so I went to his for ideas of items, other than movies to look up. I completely forgot about this item made by a company called Otter. An otter box is for an ipod, nano, mini, etc. It is waterproof (yes, with waterproof headphones you could technically swim with it or take a shower), durable, and has a shock absorber in it to cushion it should you drop it. Now, I have a mini, which has been discontinued by Apple so the accessories are much cheaper. I found a brand new one at an extremely good price so I ordered it. I can't wait. I also ordered a book called "Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions You'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini." I have heard alot about this book and it's sequel "Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?: More Questions You'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Whiskey Sour." They claim to answer questions people are embarrassed ask such as "is it harmful to hold in a fart?" or "Do animals commit suicide?" or "Why can we still not cure the common cold?" Fun, fun, fun.
In other news, the boy will be off to Ireland this afternoon, leaving me with some personal time, an empty house, and Rosy. =) And time to catch up with old friends, new friends, homework, and family.
Tomorrow is SA as is Sunday, then back to Austin for some 80s dancing!!! Then the week is really up in the air. I claim that I will clean and do my homework, but how can I when I have a week of absolutely no responsibilities except Rosy pee time and Rosy feeding time. I think I can handle that. |
